Basic Skills Training Course 2024

Basic Skills Training Course for SOLO RIDERS & SIDECAR DRIVERS
Sidecar Drivers may undergo a Solo Rider Assessment Test

As part of the ACU's ongoing policy of rider development and education, and in line with requirements as laid down in the 2024 ACU Standing Regulations, all first- time applicants for Road Race Licences must undergo a virtual classroom training course and a basic riding ability test.

The virtual classroom course will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2024 and will be hosted on Zoom. Full details will be sent to you nearer the time. The purpose of the classroom course is to ensure that you understand the basic safety and organisational requirements to participate in road racing. Before any new licence can be issued, you must satisfactorily attend the course and pass the multiple-choice test. If you have any worries that you may find the end of course test difficult to complete, please call 01788 566405 or 01246 866537.

In addition to this course all applicants for a Road Race Licence must undergo a Basic Rider Assessment Course to show you have the ability to rider a motorcycle. To take part in this course you must have the use of a motorcycle, but not necessarily a racing motorcycle, and a full set of protective clothing. You can ride any motorcycle for the Basic Riding Ability Test provided it has gears. The motorcycle should not have any race numbers showing during the test. You will also be required to have a full one-piece leather suit, safety helmet with a gold sticker, and leather boots and gloves.

The Basic Rider Assessment course will be held at Darley Moor Sports Centre Ashbourne, on Monday 4th March 2024 starting at 10.00 am and will be organised by the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Racing Club. You will also be able to have an eyesight carried out by the Venue Doctor (fee £10.00 payable on the day).

To book a place on the course please complete the on-line booking application (details below). The fee for the course includes the course notes and the test itself. The cost of the two - part course will be £200.00. If you already hold a valid current CTC course Certificate, then the Basic Rider Assessment course is £160.00.

You must also be able to show you are a member of an ACU Affiliated Club for 2024 ACU or you must join Darley Moor MCRRC Ltd to take part in this course. This is an ACU requirement. Click to Join

You must wear a one-piece leather suit and have the ACU Gold sticker on your helmet. Leather boots and gloves must also be worn.

Your motorcycle must have a noise limit of 105 dba or less. Every machine will be noise tested on the day.

If you are under 18 on the day of the course, then your Parents or Legal Guardian must accompany you to the Basic Riding Ability Course.

If you only require the Classroom CTC part of the course, please complete the on-line booking application form
